ROBO HEAD WARS
A side project I am working on involves creating my own version of a ‘robot’. For now it would at least be able to turn its head about and interact with a end user (maybe through Alex/skills?). At any rate I was browsing Thingiverse.com when I came across a great model of the K2SO from Star Wars Rogue One by NordwickDesigns. I always found him one of the best androids in the series so what better idea than try to use the model for the head of the android.
This model composed of separate parts that would be printed and later assembled. Starting with the largest parts, the top of the ‘skull’, I maxed the scale to 22% to match the size of the Qidi Tech X-One print bed. The original model was meant to be much smaller. The top skull was divided into 2 parts, split in the middle.
The next part was the back and bottom part of the head followed by the very bottom ‘plate’ with a hole where the neck would attach.
The parts of the ‘mouth’ were all printed separately and later assembled.
I left the top of the head separate from the lower part (jaw?). This was to be able to access inside the head in order to do any wiring.
The neck was printed out as well. This was a ball and socket setup that worked quite well as long as I was careful with the super glue and made sure the ball did not fuse in the socket from contact with the adhesive.
